Vivian Campbell: Dio Hologram Show Is "Keeping the Music Alive"

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell says the show featuring a hologram of the late-Ronnie James Dio is "keeping the music alive, and that's a good thing."

Campbell, who was the guitarist in the first Dio band, tells Spanish rock outlet TNT Radio Rock, that he's yet to see the show but he doesn't have a moral objection to it.

In 2012, Campbell and the other members of Dio's first lineup (plus vocalist Andrew Freeman) formed a project called Last in Line to pay tribute to Dio.

"[What] we do in Last in Line, and what they do with the hologram, I think it's all mutually to each other's benefit," he says. "I think we're all perpetuating, we're all keeping the music alive, and that's a good thing.

"So I think if the hologram brings more attention to Last in Line, then that's good for Last in Line," he adds," if our playing the music brings more attention to the hologram, then that's good for them. So I think it's a win-win. I have no real strong opinion on it. Like I said, I've never seen it, so I can't say."

The hologram show, "Dio Returns: The World Tour," was developed by a company called Eyellusion

The show debuted at this past Wacken Open Air metal festival. It features recordings of Dio's live vocals with a live backing band. The show has announced tour dates in Asia, Australia, Europe and South America.
