Winning $1.34B Mega Millions Jackpot Remains Unclaimed

Thirty days after a winning ticket was sold for the $1.34 billion Mega Millions jackpot, the winner has yet to step forward to claim the prize, lottery officials say. Although winners of jackpots worth more than $250,000 can choose to be anonymous, Illinois Lottery officials have confirmed that the purchaser of the ticket -- which was sold at a gas station in Des Plaines, Illinois -- remains a mystery. "For a prize of this magnitude, it's not unusual for the winner to take a while to claim," says Illinois Lottery Director Harold Mays, who adds the lucky purchaser has 12 months to claim the prize. "I'm sure they're going through a range of emotions. We will work closely with the winner to respect any wishes for privacy, and support them in any way we can to provide a positive winning experience.
