Shady McCoy Addresses Allegations For First Time, Doesn't Say Much

Prior to the first Buffalo Bills Training Camp practice of 2018, running back LeSean McCoy sat down in front of the local media and fielded questions.

This was the first time Shady was made available to reporters since he was accused by his ex-girlfriend of being involved in a home-invasion that resulted in her being bloodied and bruised.

LeSean took the first question about the allegations and said that it was an "open investigation" and shifted the focus to getting prepared for the season.

A few other reporters tried to ask follow ups (as you would expect) but LeSean shot them all down (as you would expect).

In the course of talking about football (per Shady's request) he did mention two things that stood out for me.

1) He's right on track as far as playing weight is concerned
---If you were at all worried that the allegations may have thrown his training program off, it apparently hasn't.  LeSean said that he's at about 212 pounds.  He said that he feels untouchable around 209-210 pounds and that he'll likely lose the 3 pounds he wants over the course of Training Camp.

2) He's been training with Frank Gore
---LeSean turned 30 earlier this month, which in the NFL is on the old end for running backs.  One thing that he's constantly talked about how he wants to do everything in his power to keep his production up as his age goes up and there are few better examples of that than Frank Gore.

Gore is preparing for his 14th NFL season (first in Miami) at the age of 34.  In the past 7 season (4 in San Fran, 3 in Indy) Gore has not missed a regular season game in 7 years.  If McCoy can learn longevity from anyone it has to be Gore.

About 45 minutes before LeSean spoke, Bills head coach Sean McDermott and General Manager Brandon Beane also sat down to answer questions.

With respect to LeSean's status, both men said that they are treating him this year like any other.

Beane and McDermott said they've done their due diligence, speaking with McCoy, the Pegulas and the NFL regarding the allegations and that they're comfortable with McCoy fully participating.  Until they hear something from the police investigation that status won't change.

Around the 5-minute mark in the press (see below) they also address Zay Jones.  The 2nd year wide receiver starts Training Camp on the non-football injury list.  Tim Graham from The Athletic says Jones is still recovering from knee surgery that was required from the incident back in March.
