A Castile man is accused of trying to kill the Wyoming County sheriff. Lynn Hall, 48, has been charged with first degree attempted murder, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The incident happened Tuesday morning on State Route 238 in Attica. New York State Police say Sheriff Gregory Rudolph was on his way to work when a vehicle began tailgating his and flashing its lights. Sheriff Rudolph reportedly pulled over to determine if the driver needed assistance. Once he pulled over, the other vehicle pulled in front of his vehicle and blocked him in. Troopers say Hall got into a physical altercation with Rudolph and reportedly tried to take his gun. Investigators say both men fell to the ground where hall ended up on top of the sheriff with a knife. Two newspaper delivery workers who were passing by the area helped the sheriff, as did an off-duty State Police trooper. Sheriff Rudolph suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Hall was arraigned and remanded to the Livingston County Jail without bail. Sheriff Rudolph said Hall came into the Sheriff’s Office the day before to apply for a pistol permit.
