Winter Storm Warning in Effect

Winter Storm Warnings are posted for the area from 1 p.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Monday. Snow will begin during the day Saturday and become heavy by evening. The heaviest of the snow will take place Saturday night into Sunday morning mainly southeast of Rochester into the Finger Lakes. Over 20 inches of snow is possible. Travel will be difficult on Sunday. It will be bitterly cold with temperatures near or below zero by Monday morning with a windchill as low as -25°.  The combination of whiteouts and double digit subzero wind chills on Monday morning, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will be dangerous. This snow will be "pure powder", which means that once the wind starts to really pick up there will be quite a bit of blowing and drifting snow with whiteouts. These winds will be nothing short of frigid.
