Your RG&E and NYSEG rates could go up. The companies have filed a request with the New York State Public Service Commission to raise rates in 2020. Officials claim they need the extra cash to improve meters, the electrical grid and to get rid of trees impacting power lines. NYSEG customers would see a 23.7 % increase for electrical delivery. This means the average customer would owe $10.17 more each month. The proposed rate hike would give NYSEG an additional $157 million in revenue.RG&E is asking for a 5.4% rate increase for electrical delivery and 4 % for natural gas delivery. The NYS Public Service Commission will hold a series of public hearings to give customers a chance to weigh in on the proposed rate plan.
