Senator Charles Schumer called on the Food and Drug Administration to investigate PRIME because of dangerously high caffeine levels. Schumer alleges that unclear marketing targeting young people leads parents to purchase these caffeinated drinks for their kids. PRIME self-advertises as having 300mg of electrolytes and zero sugar. However, a 12-ounce can contains 200 milligrams of caffeine, which is equal to about six cans of Coca-Cola or nearly two Red Bulls. That high content prompted bans from some schools in the United Kingdom and Australia where some pediatricians warned of possible health impacts on young children such as heart problems, anxiety and digestive issues. PRIME was founded by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, PRIME and has gained popularity among teens on social media.
