47-year-old Eugene Hutchings was in the back of a cab when he assaulted the driver and attempted to take his money around 11:15 p.m on Tuesday.
Hutchings stabbed the driver five times in the face and neck.
The driver had cuts on his forehead, nose, above his upper lip, chin and neck.
Hutchings ran from the scene but was then caught on N. Clinton Ave.
Hutchings faces charges of 1st degree assault and 1st degree attempted robbery.
