Geneseo Varsity Football Team Ends Season After Drug Use

13 WHAM - "Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating after members of the Geneseo high school football team reportedly used drugs before their game.

Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian confirmed Monday that an investigation is underway involving players who used drugs before a football game.

According to Chief Osganian, a player took Oxycontin from their parent without the parent's knowledge or consent, then gave the pills to several other players before the game.

In a statement released Monday, Geneseo School District Superintendent Timothy Hayes announced the varsity football team would be forfeiting the remainder of its season due to the alleged drug use.

"A number of players have been dismissed from the Geneseo High School Varsity Football Team," according to a statement released by the district Monday.

The joint letter by Superintendent Hayes and Board President Jennifer Mehlenbacher refers to the dismissals as "serious violations of the District's Code of Conduct and Athletic Eligibility Standards.""
