13 WHAM - "Thousands of passengers dealt with a cruise ship nightmare over the past week on their way home to New York from the Bahamas.
Their ship sailed right into the path of that brutal winter storm, facing hurricane force winds and huge waves.
Two Livingston County families were on that ship.
Kevin Van Allen told 13WHAM the cruise was a Christmas gift for his kids.
He called the experience horrific.
Jason Yasso, also on board with his family, said they weren't aware of the storm until they went right through it.
"It was nerve-wracking to say the least,” said Yasso. “I woke up at 1:20 in the morning Thursday morning almost falling out of bed because the ship was listing to the right so far.”
Yasso said he thinks the Norwegian cruise line could have made better decisions while dealing with the storm.
Norwegian apologized to its passengers saying in part "it encountered stronger than forecasted weather conditions.""
