Drunk Friends Don't Let Drunk Friends Drive Drunk

TheDailyNews - "Jay Markel needed a ride.

He was at state police Troop A barracks Monday night after being charged with DWI.

He was processed, issued appearance tickets and told he could leave.

Troopers said he called Darlene Martaus, 58, for a ride.

She obliged and drove to the barracks on West Saile Drive.

Problem was she didn’t have a valid driver’s license.

Not only that but, police said, Martaus was intoxicated."

"Martaus now faces three felony charges: DWI, driving with a blood alcohol content of more than .18 percent and aggravated unlicensed operation. Her license has been revoked because of a previous DWI conviction, leading to the felny charges.

She also was charged with with operating without a court-ordered Interlock device and circumventing an Interlock device.

Troopers said she had a blood alcohol content of .12 percent when she drove to the barracks just after midnight.

That happens to be the same blood alcohol content Markle registered. He had been stopped for speeding on Route 33 in Bergen about 10:30 p.m. Monday. He was charged with DWI, speeding and driving with a blood alcohol content of more than .08 percent.

Markle, 60, is to appear in Bergen Town Court at a later date.

Martaus, of Batavia, was committed to Genesee County Jail, with bail set at $500."
