First Lady Melania Trump underwent successful surgery to treat a kidney condition on Monday (May 14). The White House issued a statement that said she went through an embolization procedure for a benign condition and there were no complications from the surgery. She is expected to remain at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for the remainder of the week while she recovers.
"The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere," the statement said.
According to CNN, the last time that a first lady had major surgery while her husband was in office was in 1987 when Nancy Reagan had a mastectomy.
President Trump stayed at the White House during her surgery.
