Police Warn About Burglary Scam in Genesee County

Genesee County Sheriff's investigators are warning people about so-called "distraction" burglaries.  The incidents happened Saturday afternoon within minutes of each other. Investigators said a person living on Batavia-Elba Townline Road in Batavia was approached around 3:15 p.m. by a man pretending to work for a phone company. While the homeowner walked in the backyard with the man, another went inside the house to steal cash and jewelry. When a relative interrupted the crime all three men got into what was believed to be a Kia SUV and drove away. Another incident was reported from Indian Falls Road in Pembroke. In both cases, Genesee County Sheriff's deputies said the men used a phone or a two-way radio to communicate with one another. Anyone with information should call the Genesee County Sheriff's Office at (585) 343-5000.
