Marketplace Mall Theft Leads to Car Chase into Batavia

A State Trooper fired on a car that drove towards police officers this afternoon during a chase that began in Henrietta.

Monroe County Deputies were called at first for a theft from the Sears Store at the Marketplace Mall. They spotted a suspect vehicle on I-390 and gave chase down the Thruway to Batavia. State Police Major Edward Kennedy says the driver lost control at the Batavia toll plaza, spun out, and was surrounded by police cars.

The driver refused to surrender and drove at the police officers. A trooper fired shots at the vehicle at that time.

The driver continued to flee, crashing into a police car. The pursuit ended on Kelsey Road when the car went into a field behind a house, where it came to rest. The suspects tried to run but were quickly caught and arrested.

A male and female suspect were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. The female is being evaluated and the male suspect was treated for minor injuries. Police say they'll have more information later this evening. No police officers were hurt.
