Police: Man Altered Checks, Stole $88,000 From Employer

A Gates man has been charged with grand larceny and forgery, accused of stealing from his employer. Monroe County Sheriff's deputies say Richard Luciano, 52, stole $88,000 from MRI Contractors of NY between April 2015 and June 2018. Investigators said Luciano was employed as a dump truck driver. He is accused of delivering topsoil to a Mendon business and altering the checks. The check was made out to MRI. Investigators said Luciano altered the checks to say, "MR Richard Luciano" and have the check deposited into his own checking account. Luciano is accused of altering 109 checks. He was arraigned in Pittsford Town Court. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail.
