Researchers at the Medical University of Vienna have found that we are ingesting plastic. During the United European Gastroenterology conference, the researchers revealed the results of eight donors who had donated their stool samples. In the samples, researchers found polyethylene, (found in storage containers) polypropylene, (what bottle caps are made of )and PVC. The amounts found were anywhere from 50 to 500 microns, with 50 microns being the smallest you can see with the naked eye. Scientists couldn’t pinpoint where the donors were getting the plastic from, but on their food logs there were entries of food that came from plastic containers, they had drunk out of water bottles and ate fish that could’ve been exposed to plastic in the ocean.
