Two Cases of Measles Confirmed in Spencerport

Two students in the Spencerport Central School District have been diagnosed with the measles. Superintendent Dan Milgate sent a letter notifying parents Friday two Canal View Elementary students came down with measles. Officials believe the siblings came in contact with a toddler who contracted measles weeks earlier. The United States is experiencing its worst measles outbreak since 2014. The school district is working with the Monroe County Health Department and asking students who are not vaccinated to stay home from school until February 14. If a child becomes ill, do not send him or her to school. Parents who suspect their child is sick need to call their child's doctor or emergency department before seeking care in order to avoid exposing others. They also need to contact the Monroe County Health Department at (585) 753-5164.
