A Yates County man was arrested on rape and drug charges. Travis Vermilye, 25, of Penn Yan, is accused of having sex with a person less than 17 years of age. Investigators say the suspect attempted to flee on foot when officers arrived at his home to execute an arrest warrant on Tuesday. He was taken into custody after a brief chase. Officers say Vermilye was in possession of three baggies of heroin, marijuana, and marijuana smoking device.He's charged with third-degree rape, unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and obstructing governmental administration. Vermilye is being held in the Yates County Jail.
