Monroe County is going to opt out of New York State's newly-announced tax on paper bags. Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo says the county will not take part in a plan to allow individual counties to impose a five-cent fee on paper bags. New York State passed the 2019 budget which included banning most single-use plastic bags by supermarkets and other stores. The ban will go into effect March 1, 2020.
