Mayor Lovely Warren has appointed La'Ron Singletary as Rochester's next police chief. Singletary joined the department in 2000. He became deputy chief in January 2018. The 38-year-old is one of the youngest chiefs to lead the Rochester Police Department. Chief Michael Ciminelli left the department in September for a position with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Singletary was among five finalists to emerge from a national search. City Council will need to vote to confirm Singletary's appointment. Singletary lives in Henrietta, but will need to Rochester to comply with the city's residency requirements.
