The State of New York plans to offer tax breaks to companies that hire recovering drug addicts. Governor Cuomo announced the the tax break on Wednesday. It was included in this year's state budget. It is a first-of-its-kind program in the United States. The program will offer tax incentives for "certified employers" that hire people in recovery from substance abuse issues to part or full-time jobs. The tax breaks take effect in 2020. The state will offering $2,000 for each eligible employee hired. The employee will have to work a minimum of 500 hours before the tax credit takes effect.
