STATE POLICE: Newark Area Fire Chief Stole Funds From Department

New York State Police arrested 27-year-old Kyle Verstraete yesterday on charges of 1st Degree Falsifying Business Records (a class E felony) and Pete Larceny.

Troopers say he falsified the Marbletown Fire Department bingo records "to aid and conceal his theft of bingo proceeds, when working bingo the last ten times he has participated." Verstraete is the Marbletown Fire Chief.

Investigators executed a search warrant Thursday night after Verstraete finalized the post-Bingo deposite.

They found $732 in cash on Verstraete.

Troopers say the point of sales record from that night confirmed Verstraete omitted sales and added other sales which did not happen, consistent with his fraudulent acts of the past five months.
