Giant Pumpkin Sets New Record In California

Big pumpkins are big business...at least in California.

Leonardo Urena won a $15,000 prize at the 6th annual Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh Off in California after his pumpkin set a new California record at 2,175 pounds.

51-year-old Leonardo is from Napa, California and says his secret to growing the monster veggies is that he regularly talks to his pumpkins, telling them he's proud of them and encouraging them to grow bigger.

Timothy Beeman, the contest spokseman says the all-time record was a pumpkin that weight 2,400 pounds but that came from a farmer in Washington State so Leonardo's record holds for The Golden State.
