COVID-19 Could Cause Sudden Strokes In Young Adults

Just in case you feel the coronavirus won't affect you because you're not in the elderly at-risk population, think again. Doctors are finding that COVID-19 can cause sudden strokes among those in their 30s and 40s, who otherwise weren't very ill. According to Dr. Thomas Oxley, a neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai Health System in New York, "The virus seems to be causing increased clotting in the large arteries, leading to severe stroke." "Our report shows a seven-fold increase in incidence of sudden stroke in young patients during the past two weeks. Most of these patients have no past medical history and were at home with either mild symptoms (or in two cases, no symptoms) of COVID," Oxley told CNN.
