The drug maker Pfizer announced on Wednesday it has completed its coronavirus vaccine trial. It says the shots are 95% effective, have no serious side effects and work for older people. The company said it planned to apply for emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration within days. Pfizer developed the vaccine with BioNTech. The trial began less than a year ago. If F.D.A authorizes the two-dose vaccine, Pfizer has said it could have up to 50 million doses available by the end of the year, and up to 1.3 billion by the end of the year. Under a $1.95 billion deal the federal government for 100 million doses, Americans will receive the vaccine for free.
