Here's a safe, simple health test for older adults: Try to stand on one leg for 10 seconds. If you can't do it, no worries. You just might die within a decade. According to a new study, adults between the ages of 51 and 75 who CAN'T stand on one leg for 10 seconds . . . without any additional support . . . are twice as likely to die within 10 years. Researchers in Brazil say there's no direct connection between balance and one particular disease . . . although generally, those who failed were in poorer health. Many were obese, had heart disease, or high blood pressure. So that might have contributed to the higher death rate among those who had bad balance.
