Wendy’s May Replace Drive-Thru Workers With AI

Yet another job could soon be lost to technology. Wendy’s is preparing to launch a test-run of a new AI chatbot, which will man its drive-thru window, the chain has announced. Called “Fresh AI,” it can hold conversations with customers, take orders and answer questions, the company reports. It can even interface with cash registers to process orders, per Wendy’s. The test-run is set to begin next month at a Columbus location. “Google Cloud’s generative AI technology allows our employees to continue focusing on making great food and building relationships with fans,” says Wendy’s CEO Todd Penegor.
