Scientists Want You To Send Them Dead Butterflies

A group of U.S. scientists have an unusual request: they want you to send them dead butterflies. The U.S. Geological Survey is collecting specimens of butterflies and moths in six states: Alabama, Georgia, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. What are they going to do with all those dead bugs? Start a collection that will help researchers "identify contaminants and environmental factors which may be contributing to the decline of insect populations". Specimens should be placed in a resealable plastic bag, and frozen if they can't be shipped within three days. And make sure they're dead - live bugs will not be accepted. More information can be found at www.usgs.gov.
