PHOTOS: NYS Thruway Standoff

A man who allegedly wanted police officers to shoot him was taken into custody after a standoff that lasted several hours. According to The Batavian, the man was tracked down on Interstate 90 near exit 47 in LeRoy around 1 p.m.  Investigators said he was trying to commit "suicide by cop."  Police said the man had a gun and was driving erratically on the road and on the median. New York State Police eventually surrounded his car with more than 50 cars, a helicopter and unmarked SWAT vehicles.  The thruway was shut down for several hours and re-opened at 4:56 p.m.
