Democrats Propose Stripping Cuomo of Emergency Executive Powers

The first steps are underway to take away Gov. Andrew Cuomo's emergency executive powers. Two downstate Democrats are soliciting support of a bill to repeal the emergency legislative abilities. The law granting Cuomo oversight of the state's response to COVID-19 is set to expire at the end of April. The proposed legislation follows growing controversy over his administration's reporting of nursing home deaths. More than 15,000 residents have died since March. The administration withheld information from state lawmakers so officials could respond to a Department of Justice inquiry.
