A local environmental group wants to ban Styrofoam. The Sierra Club Rochester Regional group has started a petition. To date it has close to 100 supporters. Environmentalists say 25 billion Styrofoam coffee cups are thrown in the trash every year. The Sierra Club says they'd like to replace the Styrofoam with a more eco-friendly biodegradable material. According to the petition ten pounds of Styrofoam takes up about as much space as a household refrigerator in a landfill. In 2014, Albany County enacted a Styrofoam ban.
