There will be changes at the 2017 Lilac Festival. This year, children 16-years-old and younger cannot attend the event unless they are with their parents, legal guardian or responsible adult, 21 or over. Children will be asked for a photo ID at the entry gate. Additional security from the organizers will be on hand to help with verification. The new policy comes after a number of fights at the festivals. Last year police arrested 10 people, seven of them juveniles.
The festival also includes an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest hug relay. Organizers said they hope to bring 1,800 people to break the current record. Mexico City currently holds the record with nearly 1,300 people.
The festival runs from May 12-21.
