Wayne County Mother Accused of Assaulting Baby

A Wayne County mother is accused of assaulting her seven-week-old baby. According to 13WHAM, Melissa Blanchard, 22, told doctors her child had fallen off the edge of a bed and hurt his arm. The infant had three fractures. Doctors believed the fracture was a sign of something else and called State Police investigators. The baby was transferred to Upstate Medical in Syracuse where doctors discovered two previous fractures. Blanchard was charged with reckless assault 3rd and endangering the welfare of a child. She is being held in jail on $750 cash bond. The baby was removed by Wayne County Child Protective Services. According to 13WHAM, a Court Order of Protection was put in place to prevent Blanchard from having any contact with the child.
