A Rochester woman was killed Thursday morning in a crash on the New York State Thruway. Ellen Volpe, 45, was driving on the New York State Thruway when a Freightliner box truck crashed into the back of her Honda. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Volpe was an assistant professor at the University at Buffalo School of Nursing, but lived in Rochester. She earned a Ph.D. in health practice research from the University of Rochester School of Nursing in 2010. She has two young children. The crash remains under investigation.
