Eight people in Monroe have died from confirmed cases of the flu. The Monroe County Department of Health said all of the deaths are of people ages 50 and older. There have been 1,717 confirmed cases of the flu in Monroe County. Of those cases, 454 people have been hospitalized. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Every state except Hawaii is experiencing "widespread" flu activity.
