Study: Fewer "Likes" Could Impact Teenager's Mental Health

According to a new study, getting fewer likes on social media could impact your teen's mental health. The study was led by researchers at the University of Texas at Austin and a multi-institutional team including two University of Rochester psychologists. The team found the teenagers who received few "likes" during a standardized social media interaction felt rejected and had more negative thoughts about themselves. The teens who participated were told they were helping test drive a new social media program. Experts say the research shows the study shows not getting enough "likes" actually causes adolescents to reduce their feelings of self worth and leading some to show symptoms of depression. Developmental psychologist say social status comes into sharp focus during the teenage years of human development.
