Person of Interest in Brittanee Drexel Case in Jail

A convicted sex offender identified years ago as a person of interest in Brittanee Drexel’s 2009 disappearance has been arrested. Raymond Moody, a 62-year-old registered sex-offender, was is in jail on an obstruction of justice charge. The sheriff's office has not yet released information on the circumstances behind Moody's arrest.

Moody was identified as a person of interest in the Brittanee Drexel case in 2012, but investigators said they lacked enough evidence to list Moody as a definitive suspect. Moody had reportedly said he wasn't in the area at the time the 17-year-old disappeared. It turns out Moody was pulled over for a traffic violation near Myrtle Beach one day after Drexel went missing. Moody served 21 years in prison for sexually assaulting seven girls in California, including kidnapping and raping one of them. He relocated in South Carolina in 2004.

In 2016, the FBI revealed new details about Drexel's disappearance, saying she was killed after being held against her will.

A short time later, Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor was named a suspect in the case. The FBI said Taylor had failed a lie detector test when questioned about Drexel's disappearance. He has continuously denied any involvement in the case, including during his appearance on Dr. Phil in 2016.
