The RPD has released the redacted bodycam footage where an officer shot a killed a man named Mark Gaskill. Officers claim he brandished a gun, which lead to the shooting. We do not know the names of the officers and they have been put on leave (which is standard practice). This incident happened last week.
Meanwhile, over the weekend, Rochester Police say no one was hurt and no arrests were made following protests near the area where Gaskill was shot and killed by police last week. Police say around 75 to 90 people gathered at Glasser and Masseth Streets last night and marched to Child and Campbell streets.
Around nine o’clock, a group of protestors stopped at Child and Jay Streets and lit three construction barrels on fire, then moved to Jay and Orchard streets and lit more debris on fire including a vehicle.
The Rochester Fire Department was on scene to help put out of the fires.
